Roger Bansemer is
one of today’s most versatile and insightful artists. Spanning four prolific
decades, his paintings cover a wide spectrum from earlier abstract works to
the present day representational paintings of landscapes, shorebirds,
wildlife, beachscapes, and nautical themes. After authoring and carefully
rendering hundreds of paintings used in his books on lighthouses, he has
become known as America's premier painter of lighthouses. |
Roger’s work has
appeared in many magazine articles including Forbes, Smithsonian, and
American Artist and has been featured on the Today Show with Gene Shallit. Awards of
excellence given by William F. Buckley through the Mystic Maritime Museum in
Connecticut were presented to Roger for his nautical paintings. Bansemer has been the guest of two expeditions to the Titanic and made the two-and-a-half mile dive in a Russian submersible. Roger was the 112th person to dive to the stricken ship and the first artist ever to have done paintings at the site over Titanic. His experience has resulted in a book filled with artwork and narrative titled Journey to Titanic with a foreword by filmmaker James Cameron. Titanic Page Roger is also an accomplished videographer and has recently completed several episodes of painting demonstration videos done in the foothills of North Carolina. Video Page Roger and Sarah Bansemer reside in Clearwater, Florida during the winter months where he maintains a beautiful studio. During the summer they make their home in Flat Rock, North Carolina, not far from Asheville. His original paintings, prints and books are available at his studio and also at his galleries. Feel free to call if you have any questions. |

Flat Rock is a great place to visit and many trails are available for hiking or if you're like me, just to drive around. At an elevation of over 2,000 feet, our gallery is just two miles from the famous "Flat Rock Playhouse" and the Carl Sandberg home, now part of the National Park and a magical place to spend some time, especially in the farm and barn area where Sandburg's wife once raised goats.

Some more detailed information Bansemer exhibits primarily through his studio and galleries in Clearwater, Florida and Flat Rock, North Carolina. When not working on books or lecturing he accepts commissions from clients worldwide. Michener used Bansemer's book Southern Shores as reference material for his book Recessional. Michener says, "...here was a major part of my research already done for me, in fine style and in full color. Southern Shores was a godsend, the best gift Id received in years. In fact, I was so favorably impressed by it that I sat immediately down and typed out a fan letter to the author (Bansemer) praising him for his excellent work. The book Mountains in the Mist came about as a result of Bansemer's love for the Smoky Mountains. The friendship between Michener and Bansemer resulted in a camping trip in Bansemers van exploring the mountain areas. Michener then did the foreword for Bansemer's book.. From this trip also came a joint seminar with Michener at the University of Texas. |
Bansemer's other books include Southern Shores, Roger's most popular book about the South, At Water's Edge, a book about Florida birds, Rachael's Splendifilous Adventure, a story about a little girl and her adventure in a hot-air balloon, and Horses of the Sun, a book by Robert Vavra about horses with over 100 drawings by Bansemer. The Art of Hot-Air Ballooning, and Journey to Titanic are also included in Bansemer's prolific output. The books, "Bansemer's Book of Florida Lighthouses", and Bansemer's Book of Carolina and Georgia Lighthouses are now available through bookstores or you can order it directly from the author and have it autographed. The books include easy to read location maps, illustrations of the lighthouses, history, and personal notes. The lighthouse section of this website also includes many of the same paintings of lighthouses, maps, and information. |
