The St. Augustine Art Association has been promoting excellence in the arts since its founding in 1924. Located in the heart of St. Augustine's Historic District, the Associations 5,000 square foot gallery serves as a great place for the workshop. With St. Augustine being the oldest town in America, it is full of wonderful sites with old buildings, forts, horse and carriage rides and an old world charm especially nice for those with the artist eye. The Bansemer studio is located only a few miles away from the art center and a we may do a special tour of the studio and the lighthouse one evening. |
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPSThe Bansemer workshop is intensive in that we pack a lot into each day but at the same time both beginning and advanced painters will feel a casual atmosphere to work at their own pace. Each day I begin with a painting demonstration describing why I'm composing the painting as I am, talking about perspective, color, the use of brush work, and the subtle details that go into making a painting. Questions are encouraged. A focus is put on seeing a subject clearly as this is one of the most overlooked parts of doing a landscape painting. Combined with interpertation it's an important part of creating a meaningful painting. The rest of the day I move from student to student individually trying to solve whatever particular problem they may be having with their painting. Students may choose their own subject matter, working from personal photographs and may work in either acrylics or oils. The focus is on individual attention to developing those necessary skills with the goal of understanding and personalizing the painting process. No matter if you are a dedicated painter or someone just beginning, the workshops will put you at ease and give you a better understanding of how to see and interpret subjects in a way that will make you a better painter. We try to keep the supply list to a minimum. For more information about that click here
