Bass Harbor / Mackinac Island / Limón Marketplace

Bass Harbor

Bass Harbor, Maine

Sarah and Roger take a summer road trip in the north east stopping along the route to see small towns, go sailing in Cape Cod, take in the view from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia national Forest and visit to the Bass Harbor Head Light Station.
Roger demonstrates how to easily create very convincing rocks on the shoreline and departs from his reference photo in order to add more depth and interest to the subject with additional waves and water forms. Light and shadow are also demonstrated on the lighthouse with warm and cool colors.

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island, Michigan

Sarah and Roger drive to Northern Michigan and board a ferry to the famous summer resort of Mackinac Island. After seeing the Main Street shops they tour the island by horse drawn cart stopping at the antique carriage museum. Using acrylics Roger re-creates a memorable scene from their trip. The painting demonstration in acrylics takes a complex subject and breaks it down into manageable parts dealing with drawing and composition. Roger demonstrates how to create a color harmonious painting despite the wide range of colors in the subject.

Limón Marketplace

Limón, Costa Rica

Sarah and Roger board a cruise ship sailing to Limón, Costa Rica. They walk around the marketplace and city park listening to tropical birds and spot a sloth high up in the palm trees. In Roger’s acrylic demonstration he deviates from the reference photo to create an entirely new look for the painting adding a lady in colorful clothes, more fruits and vegetables all the while keeping the background simple yet interesting.
