The Vanderhorst Plantation
Kiawah, South Carolina
This program was filmed in Kiawah, South Carolina during a teaching workshop. Roger’s subject is the 100 year old tree covered drive leading to the plantation. Attention is paid to the light and shadows across the road ranging from the warm lights of the sun to the cool shadows that sculpt their way through the soft ruts of the drive. The owner gives Sarah a tour of the lovingly restored plantation house built by a Dutch family who raised indigo and cotton.
The 17th Fairway
Ponte Vedra, Florida
Painted on location at TPC Sawgrass just after the PGA tour, Roger’s subject is the famous 17th hole located on a small island. An underpainting of Burnt Sienna helps to create the warmth of the underlying grass upon which bright shades of green are applied. Sarah interviews golf sports expert and broadcaster Bob Bubka regarding the popular and highly competitive sport.
The Wharf at Carrabelle
Carrabelle, Florida
Early one morning while the sun was still low, Roger painted on location
capturing the calm waters and pale light of the sky. Colorful accents were emphasized in the adjacent buildings roof and windows adding life to the scene contrasting with the soft greens of the background and harmonizing with the yellow sky on the horizon. Detailed texture is added to the rocks and seawall bringing that area of the painting forward. Sarah boards the unique Governor Stone, an 1877 Gulf Coast Schooner designated a National Historic Museum piece and later walks through the downtown.
