This was painted in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. The barn may have once been used to dry small amounts of tobacco. I think this because of the widely spaced slats on the middle part of the barn. The extensions on each side are used for storage of farm equipment. The farmhouse in the background has a bit of smoke curling from its chimney giving the overall look of the painting a feeling that says fall and winter are coming.
