After having rained here in St. Augustine for over a week we got a break in the weather on a Saturday morning. A friend and I went outdoors to paint near the shrimp boat docks. What caught my eye was the oyster beds that made a lovely pattern in the low tide but before I knew it they had all but disappeared when the tide rolled in as you can see from the photograph. Nevertheless, I captured the spirit of the scene before the afternoon rains came with the graying sky.

In the painting I added a few poles and birds to balance the composition and to add some interest to an area that otherwise would be rather void of activity.
