We stayed in Pagosa Springs, Colorado and toured the Red Ryder Museum where famous artist Fred Harmon lived and worked on his popular cartoon series “Red Ryder and Little Beaver”. Freds paintings are displayed along with a number of historic buildings. The comic strip also made the Red Ryder BB gun very popular especially in the movie “Christmas Story” in which Ralphie is warned he might “shoot his eye out”. The scene I painted was an old school house on the grounds of the Red Ryder Museum. This painting was featured on our PBS series “Painting and Travel” and dealt with light and shadow, warm lights on the sunny side of the building and then cooler light on the shadow side.
